La 10 volte vincitrice ai Grammy Awards, Taylor Swift, ha colto tutti di sorpresa annunciando, attraverso i suoi social, l’uscita del suo ottavo album in studio: Folklore ora disponibile in tutti gli store (anche su Team World Shop) e piattaforme digitali (lo trovi anche su Amazon, Spotify, iTunes). Online anche il video ufficiale del primo singolo estratto, Cardigan [testo e traduzione].
L’album, a cui hanno collaborato Aaron Dessner dei The National, Bon Iver, William Bowery e Jack Antonoff, contiene 16 nuove tracce nella versione standard, la versione deluxe invece ha la bonus track “the lakes”. Trattandosi dell’ottavo album in studio, Taylor Swift ha deciso di rendere disponibili 8 versioni deluxe dei cd e 8 vinili deluxe, ognuna con foto, cover e artwork differenti, acquistabili per una settimana unicamente su taylorswift.com.
Questo uno dei passaggi fondamentali del messaggio pubblicato da Tay per annunciare ai suoi fan l’uscita del CD:
«Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore. […] My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with. Love you guys so much».
In queste righe Taylor Swift dichiara:
«Quasi tutti i progetti che avevo in programma per quest’estate non potranno essere realizzati, ma c’è qualcosa che non avevo pianificato e che invece ho portato a termine. Si tratta del mio ottavo album in studio, folklore. Dentro vi ho riversato tutti i miei capricci, sogni, paure e riflessioni. Prima di quest’anno probabilmente mi sarei fermata a riflettere su quando sarebbe stato il momento perfetto per pubblicare queste canzoni, ma i tempi in cui viviamo continuano a ricordarmi che nulla è certo. Il mio istinto mi dice che se fai qualcosa che ami, dovresti semplicemente mostrarlo al mondo. Questo è il lato dell’incertezza che più mi piace».
Folklore fa seguito a Lover, uscito nell’agosto del 2019 e contenente hit come “Lover,” “ME!” e “You Need to Calm Down”.

Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into. I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine; @aarondessner (who has co-written or produced 11 of the 16 songs), @boniver (who co-wrote and was kind enough to sing on one with me), William Bowery (who co-wrote two with me) and @jackantonoff (who is basically musical family at this point). Engineered by Laura Sisk and Jon Low, mixed by Serban Ghenea & Jon Low. The album photos were shot by the amazing @bethgarrabrant. Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed. My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with. Love you guys so much».

«The music video for “cardigan” will premiere tonight, which I wrote/directed. A million thank you’s to my brilliant, bad ass video team – cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, producer Jil Hardin, executive producer Rebecca Skinner, AD Joe ‘Oz’ Osbourne, editor Chancler Haynes, special effects wizards David Lebensfeld & Grant Miller, and set designer Ethan Tobman. The entire shoot was overseen by a medical inspector, everyone wore masks, stayed away from each other, and I even did my own hair, makeup, and styling».
